Week 5 2020: Long OVER Due

Well, well, well bet you didn’t think you’d see one of these again. However, some of you might have noticed that last week the ol’twitter (@BetOppositeOfMe) fired back up after OVER a year of silence. Those same folks may have noticed that went pretty pretty good, going 7-1 OVERall in Week 4.

Originally the plan was to spend 3 hours trying to remember the password for this thing prior to Week 1, but it just didn’t feel right (f*ck covid). After thinking it OVER the decision was made we’d wait for some Power 5 football and fuller slates. That time was last week…unfortunately that password thing went OVER the 3 hours I had anticipated…

…alas it was just Twitter picks.

But now we are back and going to build on last week’s success.

What better way to do so than to pay tribute to our sweet prince, Mike Leach. Anyone who has followed since the beginning know, he is Our Bae. Our King. Our Hero. Our G.O.A.T. Only he could briefly make us forget about Covid last Saturday. As his Mississippi Bulldogs put up OVER 40 points and OVER 630 yards (623 passing) in route to upsetting the defending champion LSU Tigers.

And what is the only way to pay tribute to Mike Leach and thank him for last weekend?

OVERs, OVERs and more OVERs

Friday Night Special

9:00pm: Louisiana Tech @ BYU O59

Let’s keep it simple here. BYU is averaging OVER 51 points per game, while racking up OVER 620 yards per game. The most impressive part about that is the balance they’ve shown on offense (375 passing/246 rushing).

Louisiana Tech have not been a slouch in the early 2020 campaign themselves. The Bulldogs are averaging 48.5 points per game and also boast a balanced attack (289 passing/172 rushing). Giving up 38 points to Houston Baptist and 30 to Southern Miss doesn’t hurt our cause here.

I know, I know…I can already hear people now. “It’s 2 games into the season!” and “Who have they played”. Well…

Final Prediction: BYU 55 La Tech 31

Saturday Early Slate

12:00pm: South Carolina @ Florida O57.5

Last week Kyle Trask and the Gators welcomed back Lane Kiffin to the SEC by promptly hanging a 50 Burger (51) on the Rebels. Trask lived up to the preseason hype throwing for OVER 400 yards and 6 TDs.

South Carolina on the other hand struggled out of the gate losing a close one to Tennessee. In the loss they did manage to still score 27 points and Collin Hill the transfer from CSU showed some glimpses.

Florida might not need to score 50 again this week as long as South Carolina can show up and help us out a little. I think they can do just that…

Final Prediction: Florida 40 South Carolina 24

12:00pm: TCU @ Texas O62.5

Right off the bat, I must admit I am still not OVER last week. At halftime I took Texas Tech ML +800. That one will sting for awhile.

The positive though is I now know that the Texas defense stinks and their offense is legit.

TCU, well they passed for 400 yards vs. Iowa State last week, losing a high scoring affair 37-34.

Looks like Big 12 OVERs look alive and well this season. Nature is healing…

Final Prediction: Texas 40 TCU 30

Afternoon Slate

3:30pm: Memphis @ SMU O74

Two teams averaging OVER 500 yards per game…

Two teams each averaging almost 300 yards passing per game…

Two teams each averaging around 250 yeards rushing per game…

Fast temp teams with a history of shootouts…

80 degrees and sunny…

That fast SMU turf…

Memphis vs SMU…

Nothing else to think OVER

Final Prediction: SMU 48 Memphis 45

3:30pm: Texas Tech @ Kansas State O64

See the Texas write up above…

Texas Tech has their QB healthy this year and their defense is as bad as ever. Kansas State pulled the upset OVER Oklahoma last week, proving they can score with the high powered offenses.

Another Big 12 shootout here.

Points are going to come fast in this one. Enjoy it.

Final Prediction: Kansas State 45 Texas Tech 42

4:00pm: Ole Miss @ Kentucky O61.5

Last week I gave out an under (Shhhhhh) and it cashed. That game featured Kentucky. So you might be asking how you can bet an OVER this high with a team that scored 13 points last week. Well it’s quite simple. Did you see Ole Miss last week?

Fast offense.

Bad defense.

And the return of this guy…

ALSO THEY AREN’T PLAYING AUBURN THIS WEEK

Final Prediction: Ole Miss 37 Kentucky 35

Evening Slate

7:30pm: Oklahoma @ Iowa State O63.5

Oklahoma and freshman QB Spencer Rattler are coming off an upset loss to KSU last week. Not great. However the pressure is off and that is great. With the playoffs just about impossible at this point, expect Lincoln Riley to try to put on a show and accumulate as many “style points” as he can OVER the next couple months.

On the other side, Cyclones QB Brock Purdy has not lived up to the preseason expectations. What better recipe to get himself going than a bad Sooners defense and another Big 12 Shootout!

Final Prediction: Oklahoma 48 Iowa State 34

There they are. 7 OVERs to get the blood flowing. It has been too long since the last blog so I will remind you of the rules. Make sure you follow the ol’Twitter (@BetOppositeOfMe) for additional adds, although some of those may be after a few adult recreational beverages. Odds are right now I will talk myself into the Mike Leach OVER but for now we wait. And as always if you fade them good luck

but also…
